What Can You See?
With 235mm of aperture, deep-sky objects become a major part of the observing experience. New Zealand’s southern sky offers outstanding targets including Omega Centauri and 47 Tucanae, where large globular clusters can break into extraordinary numbers of individual stars, and the Carina Nebula with its extensive mixture of nebulosity and star fields. Galaxies such as Centaurus A and the Sculptor Galaxy are also excellent targets, with darker skies bringing fainter galaxies and nebulae within reach and revealing more structure in brighter objects.

How NexStar Evolution Works
Celestron’s SkyAlign system makes computerised observing accessible even if you do not already know the night sky. Once the telescope has established its orientation from three bright reference objects, you can select what you want to observe and let the GoTo system do the locating.
Built-in Wi-Fi allows a compatible phone or tablet to connect directly to the telescope and use the SkyPortal Powered by SkySafari app as an interactive map of the night sky. Explore what is visible, choose a target and the Evolution slews to its calculated position.
The mount then continues tracking the target as the Earth rotates, allowing you to concentrate on the view through the eyepiece rather than repeatedly repositioning the telescope.
If you prefer physical controls, the supplied NexStar+ hand controller provides full telescope operation without requiring a smartphone or tablet.
Evolution Mount, Power & Other Features
The Evolution mount is a major part of what makes this substantial telescope so straightforward to own and use.
Its built-in LiFePO₄ rechargeable battery provides up to approximately 10 hours of operation, eliminating the external power cable or separate power tank commonly required by many GoTo telescopes. A USB charge port can also top up a compatible phone or other device during an observing session.
High-performance brass worm gears and improved drive motors provide accurate GoTo movement and tracking, while manual altitude and azimuth clutches allow the telescope to be repositioned manually when required.
The 9.25-inch model is supplied with a heavy-duty, adjustable stainless-steel tripod with 2-inch legs, providing the stronger foundation appropriate for its larger optical tube.
This is not a lightweight telescope: the complete system weighs approximately 28.4kg. Importantly, it does not need to be carried fully assembled.
