A very easy to use 6" (152mm) telescope - perfect for amateur astronomers
Description
Sky-Watcher Dobsonian Telescopes are a popular choice for amateur astronomers. You get a large aperture sizes at affordable prices and it is one of the most practical optical instruments in world of astronomy. Designed to be simple, Sky-Watcher Dobsonian consists of 2 parts: a solid tube and a wooden mount and almost immediately will allow you to start your observation sessions without spending time on setup.
The Sky-Watcher 6" ( 152mm) Dobsonian is a large aperture newtonian reflector telescope with a focal length of 1200mm and a f/8 focal ratio which makes it ideal for wide field and deep-sky observation. It comes with a 2" focuser and a 1.25" adapter, allowing the use of either eyepiece sizes. This model also includes the new feature-tension control handle. This Tension Control Handle allows you to adjust the friction setting, to increase or reduce the amount of resistance when moving the tube on the mount, so you always have the appropriate resistance setting. This means the telescope does not need to be balanced in order to stay in position and allow the tube to move easily when nudged but to stay in position when not.
Recommended Usage - Viewing Galaxies/Stars, the Moon and other planets
Although this is a beginner unit we were amazed at the detail we could see in the moon. Even with the basic unit (which can be expanded on later) it opened our eyes to the vastness of space when checking out other planets. We had not had any experience before and we found this a piece of cake to assemble and get going.
Next step is to wait for the green traffic light then we will join an astrological group to get the most out of the experience.
We found it really helpful to download an app that points out all the planets and constellations so we could easily find out what we were actually looking at (otherwise all I could identify was the moon).
